Term 1 - Reception

We are delighted to welcome you and your child to Reception! It has been a pleasure getting to know your little ones and watching them settle into their new environment. Their enthusiasm and curiosity is infectious, and we're excited to embark on this exciting learning journey together.

At Alice Smith Primary School, we want all of our students to flourish and thrive. We have busy days with many engaging activities. The children can get quite tired by the end of a fun-filled day, learning, playing with their friends and mastering new routines. It is important that the children are having enough sleep each night and are coming to school well rested in order to cope with the day and engage with the many learning opportunities on offer.

Important Reminders

Spare uniform 

• In Reception there are opportunities to engage in water play. Please pack a spare set of clothes in your child’s bag in case they get wet. 
• We would greatly appreciate if all clothes were clearly labelled with your child’s name

Photographs - Safeguarding

• Parents/carers are requested not to take photographs or videos when on the school site, unless permission has been given (as stipulated on their parent tag).
• An exception would be at invited events, where parents are generally given permission to take photos or videos of their own child. This can be clarified at the start of the event.
• Parents are kindly asked to not publish or distribute photographs containing images of children who are not in their family, e.g. on social networking sites.

Learning Spotlight

In Reception we take note of children’s independent learning choices and interests and tailor the curriculum content to inspire and motivate each individual. This child-centred approach allows the teachers to ensure that every child is making good progress and building on previous learning experiences.

We document the learning and achievements for each child in an online learning journal called Seesaw, which parents will be able to access. The user expectations and details on how to connect to your child’s learning journal are linked here.

Closing Remarks

We want all of our students to grow into positive emotionally intelligent citizens, with a love for learning that will equip them for success in school - and beyond. Thank you for your ongoing support with your child’s wellbeing and learning.
