Learning Support

Learning Support
Our Learning Support Unit (LS) department consists of five highly qualified Special Educational Needs (SEN) teachers and four Learning Support Assistants (LSAs). The learning support team works closely with students, teachers and parents to create individual education support plans. Teachers collaborate, plan strategies and lead 1:1 lessons or group withdrawal where appropriate. All students identified as needing additional learning support are assigned a ‘key worker’, have regular intervention and their progress is carefully tracked. Student progress is discussed and reported to parents on a termly basis.

Additional ‘SEN Professional Support Services’
Additional SEN Professional Support Services provide students with the opportunity to access additional external professional services during the school day. Such provision is at an additional cost to parents. Class teachers or the Learning Support department will discuss this option with you if they feel it would benefit your child.

We currently have a speech and language therapist, occupational therapist and specialist dyslexic support available at the Primary Campus and we work closely with other external agencies to support a range of learning needs. Spaces on the in-school support programmes are limited and not guaranteed.

EAL (English as an Additional Language)
We offer an enhanced language programme that is designed specifically for multilingual learners. This personalised programme provides focused support for multilingual learners by our four EAL teachers, consisting of one-to-one or small focused group withdrawal sessions, personalised in class support, along with regular monitoring and assessment by the EAL teacher. This support will take place during the school day and is an additional cost to parents.

Applying
Applications are considered on a case by case basis. Parents are requested to provide the school with detailed information and records to assist in the process. Parents are also strongly advised to discuss possible applications prior to making a formal application to ensure that the school is in a position to meet the needs of their child.
