Term 1, Year 2

A very warm welcome back to school and to Year 2. In particular, a special welcome to our new students and families - we hope you have started to settle in well to the Alice Smith community. The Year 2 team are all very excited for the start of the new year and are very much enjoying getting to know your wonderful children. 

Highlights of the Term

As you may have seen, over the course of the summer, two beautiful new Year 2 classrooms have been created, meaning all Year 2 classrooms are now in the same area, with easy access to our Shared Classroom. We’re all thrilled to be able to work closely together to provide the best possible learning environments for your children.

To enrich our learning this term, we will be going on a school trip to Lake Gardens. More information will follow in due course. The children will also have an opportunity to showcase their musical talents during Music Moments, which is always a highlight of the term.

Important Reminders

• If your child accomplishes a special achievement out of school please remember to let us know so that we can celebrate with them in school. Please send a photograph of them in their activity and a few sentences about their achievement via email to their class teacher and the office [email protected] 
• Please email your class teacher directly if you have any questions or queries. 
• Please also remember to email your class teacher to let them know if there are any changes to dismissal. If there are last minute changes, please call the school office. 

Learning Spotlight

In the first term of Year 2, we build upon the strong foundations laid in Year 1, focusing on the individual needs of each student. Our unique curriculum is designed to provide a balanced approach, combining play-based learning with teacher-led activities. This allows us to cater to the diverse needs of our students, ensuring they are engaged, challenged, and supported as they continue their educational journey here at Alice Smith.

Please note here a summary of home learning for our year group. Home learning will consist of:

• reading aloud daily to an adult
• completing assigned online tasks on Doodle - these will be set on a Friday and we expect the children to complete their tasks by Wednesday.
• 3 times weekly practise for spellings, which will be personalised for each child. Please note new spellings will not be sent home on a weekly basis. Children will be individually assessed and will be given new spellings when they show they are ready.

It has been a hive of activity in Year 2 over the last couple of weeks, with the children enjoying a range of different learning opportunities to allow our teachers to get to know them as individuals and learners.
