British International School in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Alice Smith School was the first British international school in Malaysia and the only British international school in Kuala Lumpur which is 'not for profit'. With two stunning campuses, Primary and Secondary, providing world-class facilities and an abundance of green, open spaces we are passionate about the difference we make and proud of our excellent reputation in providing an outstanding and thriving all-round education based on the British curriculum for 3 to 18 year olds. The exceptional quality of learning and teaching, the breadth of learning opportunities, the high levels of excellent student behaviour and agency, the depth of staff professionalism and the outstanding levels of governance practice and community engagement all contribute to make our school a wonderful place to be and are the foundation for our success.

Early Years

The early years are critical to developing a lifelong love for learning, and by creating a fun, safe and engaging learning environment, our children begin their education with a solid foundation. To help them flourish and thrive, we offer a bespoke and flexible curriculum packed full of trips, excursions and learning opportunities designed to enrich their learning experience.

Our teachers are extremely knowledgeable and focus on assessing each child individually, catering to their learning needs. They utilise a play-based approach to learning, involving adult-led activities, classroom visits, story times, and plenty of green and open space for play. We also keep in consistent contact with parents, so that any questions or concerns can be dealt with swiftly and to ensure that we are sharing the relevant information with each other.

Ultimately, we want all our children to grow into positive citizens with a love for learning and emotional intelligence that will equip them for success in school - and beyond.

Primary

At primary school level, we focus on educating children holistically, beyond a set of learning objectives or skills. Our curriculum is comprehensive and engaging, providing globally relevant thematic units of work with specific learner attributes that create successful, lifelong learners.

As children progress through Primary school, they will become more exposed to specialist teaching. In Years 1 and 2 they continue to receive specialist teaching for Languages - Mandarin, French or Bahasa Malaysia, PE & sport, swimming, and music, and art and computing in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6.

Secondary

We want to encourage students to develop a critical, analytical mind, helping them sharpen their leadership skills and prepare for further education. Our innovative approach to a British curriculum will stimulate your child’s capacity to learn whilst providing the opportunity to develop higher-level thinking skills including creativity, problem solving and highly effective communication.

In Years 7, 8 and 9 students study a broad curriculum of 16 subjects. In Years 10 and 11, students study for GCSE examinations taking up to 10 subjects. We also incorporate a range of extracurricular activities and programmes outside of these subjects, to enrich our student’s education and provide them with further learning opportunities. This includes dedicated college and career-planning resources, our ACHIEVE programme, and various other activities. We also stay in constant communication with parents, issuing regular academic reporting that covers their child’s performance and needs.

Our facilities are second to none: the campuses are bright and open plan, bringing in lots of natural light, boasting an impressive sports complex. They offer a modern learning environment with fresh and vibrant spaces for children to work individually or collaborate with their peers. They facilitate teaching and learning in different ways - for all types of learners and all ages.

A diverse, safe, positive, healthy, and engaging learning environment stimulates and enhances students’ learning experience, and that’s exactly what Alice Smith students benefit from.

Sixth Form

At Alice Smith, we provide a personalised learning experience for our Sixth Form students and have seen incredible results from this approach. In 2023, 82% of students secured university places in the UK did so at their first choice university; 88% of students securing places globally also secured their first choice university as far afield as Tokyo and Canada.

Alice Smith School graduates have gone on to be accepted at top UK universities, such as universities of Cambridge, Oxford, St Andrews and Imperial College London. Additionally, our students have received multiple offers to US universities including Yale University, Brown University and the Georgia Institute of Technology. There are also many international destinations across Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, France, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia and India.
