The Maths trip 2014 was a great trip. First we visited Universal Studios in Singapore for two nights. Then we visited the theme park and the water park at Sentosa Island. After two nights, we went to Legoland, Malaysia, where we got the chance to learn how the rides are made by simple machines, such as levers and pulleys. We also were able to do some programming on robotics. It was a fantastic trip and I had a lot of fun!
My initial reaction to being informed that I would be a supervising teacher on the Maths trip to Singapore was trepidation for two reasons: as a teacher of English, the language of Maths is somewhat alien to me, and I had not been to a theme park in years! However, the actual trip was absolutely awesome! Through a series of activities - from working collaboratively on Dr Heartbeat at Legoland to figuring out how theme park rides work - I was reminded that Maths is an integral life skill which is implicit in so much that we do and experienced the fun and enthusiasm of learning Maths in such a stimulating environment. All in all, a fantastic trip to remember.
