Held at our home ground, the stands were full and it felt
like the whole school was out supporting and cheering us on. After an inspiring
performance of the Haka by the Year 6 students
from our Primary Campus, the teams were raring to go. Everyone was eagerly waiting for the first
whistle to be blown.
The tournament kicked off with a challenging start against
last year’s champions, UWC. A relentless performance by Alice Smith, we were
adamant we were going to score a try and our heads never dropped. With a strong
line of defence, we were not fazed by the score line however the well drilled
opposition came out strong and we were defeated.
As a team, we re-fuelled and prepared for our next game
against Bangkok Patana School. A close score of 3-2 to BPS, the crowd applauded
fantastic tries by Elena Abbott and Emily Brosnan, a great display of plays,
looping and switches in attack however with only a few lucky breaks, the
opposition edged ahead. Finishing the day with a tough match, Tanglin Trust
School stole the win despite our team’s valiant effort.
Saturday marked the beginning of a new day, and Alice Smith
was determined to get ahead. Our first
game was against our home rivals, Mont Kiara International School, who we have
battled against all season but failed to defeat. A joyous victory, we finally
got the result we deserved. A great attack lead by Petra Sekhar and Emily
Brosnan resulted in an instant try scored by Emily. MKIS were taken aback by
our strong starting line-up and impressive performance. A second try out on the
wing scored by one of our youngest but most promising new players, Lisa Walker
secured our triumph and left the team in high spirits going into the next game.
The day ended with a high scoring game against NIST International
School, the score line even at 4-4. Our team dominated possession however with
a few star players on the opposite side, NIST managed to break through our
defence and score an equalising try in the last minute. There were some great
moments in attack by our team, tries scored by Caroline Brosnan(1), Emily
Brosnan(1) and Petra Sekhar(2). Unfortunately due to try difference, we
finished in an undeserved 5th place. This meant we missed out on the
semi- finals and would now have to play-off against NIST to try and avoid
Sunday morning was the last day of a demanding but exciting
weekend and the girls were kitted up and ready to give one last effort in their
final game against NIST. Losing 4-1 at half time, a brilliant try scored by
Sabrina Nielsen, the team was not disheartened, returning to the second half
with a fighting attitude. With an uplifting try scored by Emily Brosnan, Alice
Smith was back in the game. A further try was scored by Caroline Brosnan which was
then followed up by an equalising try from Sabrina Nielson who displayed a
hunger to score for her team and did not let us down. A lucky break by NIST
ended the game with a disappointing result however the determination of the
team was inspiring and a huge amount of effort and skill was displayed.
We look forward to next season despite losing valuable
players: Petra Sekhar (Captain), Caroline Brosnan (Vice Captain), Elena Abbott
and Shazlyn Scott. However we are confident the team, lead by Emily Brosnan and
Sabrina Nielson, will have a successful season and get the result they deserve
– promotion back in to Division One!
