Sunday 16th February 2014, it
was extremely encouraging to see so many new faces from KLASS at the start of
the Triathlon season.
organiser, Meta Sprint, who organised many triathlons around Asia, also organised
an annual 3 race series in Singapore from February to April. The Aquathlon is
the first of the series, followed by the Duathlon and then the Triathlon. This
event is very well attended by many athletes around Asia. This year, there were
over 1500 athletes who registered for this event, from the various categories.
Saturday morning, bright and early, many of us made our way to Singapore. The
race was on Sunday morning, held in Sentosa Island. A nice location but the
heat was quite unbearable and humidity was high.
event started at 8.30am for the older athletes. KLASS was represented in the
Youth and Kids category ranging from age 6 to 15.The race for our children only
began after 10am and by that time, the sun was blazing (considerably hotter
than Malaysia ). Hats off to the children for enduring the heat and pressure of
the race! The race started off with a swim in the sea, distance ranging from
150m and 250m, depending on the age group. Each category had close to 60
children, all racing from a confined area from the beach to the sea. Quite
daunting even for experienced athletes! After the swim, the athletes had to
then run about 200m on the soft sandy beach to the transition area. That was draining
on the children and the parents felt tired just watching the children’s feet
sinking into the sand as they tried their best to race to the transition area. Transition
was straight forward and then the children made their way for the run, distances
ranged from 1.5km to 2.5km.
had in total 11 KLASS kids from both the
Primary and Secondary Campuses. The Monaghans came in full force this year,
Zakerie, Yasmin, Dylan and Ben. They all performed well and beat their Personal
Best times. It was Ben’s first race and he emerged 4th! We had a first timer, Sophia
Dalimore who did extremely well in her race. Both the Comptons, Kylie and Sam
made impressive finishes. We also had
Jack Heneberry who came in 10th in his category.
Doyle (10 – 11 age group) and Rowan McCallum (8 -9 age group) took the 1st
position in their category. Natalie Hunter and Josh Mc Callum both came 2nd
in the 10 – 11 age category.
burnt and exhausted but the kids were all happy with their performance and they
all emerged as winners. They all tried their best. KLASS has made its mark in Singapore! Well
done to all our KLASS athletes.
