Great effort by KLASS Triathletes at The Australian International School Triathlon 2013
It was an early start on Sunday morning, 15th December as we made our way to the Australian International School. Registration started at 7am on what we thought would be an overcast morning.
KLASS triathletes showed up in great numbers, a total of nearly 40 (including some mums and dads) registered themselves for this race, far more than any other school or club. There were a total of over 200 athletes competing on the day!
The first race started at 8am with the mixed open (over 15 students & novice parents). Some mums and dads took part in this category and 2 of our parents took podium positions.
By the time that category finished, the sun broke through and the day warmed up, just when the Under 6 category started their race. The swim was in the 25m pool after which the triathlete had to run to the transition area to bike out.
The bike trail was full of small pebbles and a few speed bumps and at the speed that some of the athletes went, it was a challenge even for some experienced triathletes! Unfortunately a few fell off their bikes. It was quite nerve wrecking for some parents waiting for kids to return from the biking!
Finally, the run was straight forward as they ran distances ranging from 300m to 2km depending on age group. It was just as challenging though, running under the blazing sun.
Medals were given to all who finished the race and trophies were awarded to the top 5 triathletes in their category.
KLASS made a pretty good stand in every category, with three 1st places, three 2nd places and four 3rd places. And special mention to the U10 boys who got the top 4 places!
This year, the Australian School had scoring for the overall performance from individual schools. Alice Smith was the OVERALL CHAMPION followed by the Australian School in 2nd place and Garden International School in 3rd place.
What a fantastic way to end the day and the triathlon season for the year!
Congratulations to all KLASS Triathletes.
