The annual FOBISIA Primary Performing Arts' Carnival had a very British theme this year, and 24 Year 5 and 6 students enjoyed exploring music of The Beatles to Edward Elgar during a long weekend at Kellett School, Hong Kong.
Preparations began in January as Mr James, Mr Evans, and Ms Leyfield helped students learn a wide and challenging repertoire of music from various genres including pop, traditional and classical. The celebration concert on Sunday 26th March was a sensational culmination of all the hard work, and the overall effect of a combined choir and orchestra comprising 257 young musicians created a huge and energetic sound!
Alice Smith musicians particularly enjoyed playing the 'Sailor's Hornpipe' as it was fast and furious, singing 'Calon Lan' in Welsh as it was challenging but fun, and performing 'Stop' as the teachers played in the band and the choir had actions. The weekend was action-packed and included a trip to see Stanley Market, and a surprise performance by the Hong Kong Scottish Pipers, who performed alongside the orchestra in 'Highland Cathedral'. Our students represented Alice Smith brilliantly and no doubt had a memorable time in Hong Kong.
