I challenge anyone who wasn’t moved by the excellence that was the Year 6 Production this year! Staff, students and parents were brought to tears through laughter or pride and everyone in the audience left beaming and gushing about the amazing acting, moving music, creative costumes and spectacular set! WOW! What an amazing performance and we have the Year 6 students to thank!
Thomas Moggie (6I) and Letty Fisher (6H) share their story with you here:
"This year, in line with our new curriculum we took a different approach to the production. The students in Year 6 took a much bigger role in every aspect of bringing this show together.
Our goal was to learn all about how to put on a production. We learned a range of skills, from how to assess an audition, to developing drama skills, we learned about stage design, we even had a fashion designer come in to teach us how to design costumes.
Everything you saw on the stage, had children in Year 6 behind its design and production. This is the first year that we had a team of children that worked with Mrs Winter initially on sewing skills and then the children sewed up a storm with some very talented parents. Mrs Quarm and Mrs Orna English made sure we were organised and kept track of the costumes. We are all very grateful for the support we have been given and we have learnt so much.
Our art teacher Ms Oliver, led a group of children in designing and painting the backgrounds and making almost all of the props! We also had a team of creative parents making a few props.
We even did our own marketing around the school! Mr Thorpe and the light and sound team doubled up to do marketing with the help of Mr Devey. We have a website up and running that tracked our process over the course of the past 3 weeks - you can see it by accessing the QR code on the posters you see around the school.
Mr Maddern and Miss Weller have headed up the acting and have worked with our fantastic actors to bring the characters from the screen truly come to life. The children have tirelessly rehearsed, even on weekends and after school, to make the performance a show stopper. We have also collaborated with Mrs Quarm and Miss Weller to create our own dance routines which will have you moving in your seats.
Mr James and the orchestra blew us away with how 11-year old musicians were able to come together to play such complex music as a team in just a few weeks. What talent!
And last but definitely not least, Ms McCullough who as well as being involved in directing us, also produced the whole show, making sure all our ideas and opinions were at the forefront of our final production. This would not have been possible without her co-ordination and skill!
We have filmed the performance and you can find this on the Parent Portal and on our Year 6 website.
