Here at the Primary Campus we were pleased to welcome 69 new students for the start of Term 1. They all arrived fresh-faced and suited up in their pristine uniforms ready to start a new adventure. First day nerves were somewhat lessened by the fact that many of our new students had already been into school; attended the new student induction program and have a sneak peek at their classrooms when meeting their new teacher. Nonetheless, the atmosphere was still charged as they walked in to meet their new classmates.
New students are well looked after here at Alice Smith as they are helped to settle; not only by the Pastoral Team and class teachers, but by their very own personal minder. At the Primary Campus, new students are assigned a ‘Buddy’. These experienced, dependable and friendly members of our school are charged with the responsibility of helping to settle those new students and guide them through the daily routines. Whilst proudly wearing their Buddy Badge and flourishing their Buddy Booklet, pairs of children can be seen walking around school pointing out places of importance, confidently introducing new children to key members of staff and discussing the history of Alice Smith.
All of this helps new children in a smooth transition to their new home and boosts the confidence and self-esteem of the Buddies. A win-win situation we all strive to achieve.
