For the first time, 2 of our parents and our very own Mr Ami represented
the school and KLASS Torpedoes at the Selangor Short Course Championships last
weekend at PADE pool in Shah Alam.
The nerves and anticipation level were very high for the 100m freestyle
event on Saturday as Mr Boden (yes the parent governor) and Mr Compton lined up
behind the blocks. The atmosphere was made more tense as a technical error with
the pads delayed the start. The crowd roared as the referee called the swimmers
to their marks. The race was an exhibition of swimming with much on display for
our younger swimmers to learn from.
Mr Boden led at the halfway mark and finish in 58 secs whilst Mr Compton
finished strongly in 1:05. The excitement had barely subsided when a nervous Mr
Ami left for the marshall room ahead of his 50m fly. Mr Ami flew out of the
blocks like a soaring albatross haring down the pool in pursuit of much younger
swimmers. The final 10m were very challenging but he finished in a high
respectable 30 secs. The next day saw Mr Boden and Mr Compton return for the
50m free. They were not put off by their combined entry age and again asked
serious questions of the 17, 18 and 19 year old whipper snappers in their heat.
We hope this is an aspect of the team that we can develop and look forward to
others participating in open events in the future (calling Mr Kiu, Mr Small,
