On 10th May, six students from Year
9 competed in the “Battle of the Bands”, following the Guitar Master Class, at
the Bentley Music Centre near the Curve.
The band, Rule 26, consisted of
Charlotte Drake, Maisie Winter, Chan Xin Yi, Dominic McAuley, Nadia Tan and
Siobhan Beatty, and they were absolutely fantastic.
They were certainly the
youngest band there by a mile, all but one of their eleven opponents being at
least five years older than the R26 members! Performing 'Livin’ on a Prayer' by Bon Jovi and 'American Idiot' by Green Day, they managed to rock the
socks off not just the judges but the full-house audience too, bagging
themselves a satisfying third place.
We’re hoping to see Rule 26 treat us all to a
performance at the upcoming Summer Fair on June 28th at EP.
An audience favourite, and a personal one too.
By Sarah Drake, proud
elder sister of R26 lead vocalist.
And, of the bma guitar master class, earlier on the competition day:
experienced guitarists -one of whom being Adil Rahim, Bentley and EP peripatetic
guitar tutor- offered a small group some ‘hands-on’ Jazz, Blues and Rock playing
tips. Much of the time it was 1:1, an unexpected bonus! I find workshops
particularly enriching, whether Bentley Guitar, MPO Art of Conducting Intro,
FOBISIA Music workshops for timpani & choral opportunities or The Guitar
Store Fingerpicking Style before Tommy Emmanuel’s KL concerts... There is so
much on offer to enjoy” says R26 girl-band token male, Dom.
