At the invitation of the Headteacher of Kuen Cheng Chinese Primary School 2 (SJKC), 10 students from our Year 5 Mandarin class participated in the Chinese New Year Celebrations on 29th January 2014 at their school. SJKC is a famous Chinese school in Kuala Lumpur.
When we arrived, it was exciting to witness a lion dance. “The trainer, dressed as a Chinese ancient county magistrate, looked funny and humorous,” commented one student.
Towards the end of the celebrations, our students joined in the Chinese action sing-a-long songs and enjoyed it tremendously.
As we left, we were each handed traditional Chinese New Year gifts - Mandarin oranges and red angpows. For lunch, we were served the traditional Malaysian nasi lemak.
It was a most enjoyable and educational trip. Our students were shy at first to speak Mandarin but soon became more confident and enjoyed meeting new friends and learning more about the Chinese culture.
