During the weekend of 24th – 26th January,
59 excited U9 girls and boys travelled to Marlborough College in Johor Bahru
for an action packed weekend of football, climbing and swimming.
As always, KLASS
were on their best behaviour and they demonstrated a number of fine
performances. For some students, the weekend was even more special as this was
their first time representing KLASS and for others it was even their first time
away from home! A fantastic weekend of football and sport was had by all. Well
done to everyone for their hard work and commitment. Go KLASS!
The Awesome Alligators – Mrs Farag
The 9 Awesome Alligators eagerly started the first quarter against a
strong Marlborough side. We played well with a few near misses from Scarlet,
Sophie and Robin but Marlborough finished the quarter with a 1-0 advantage due
to an own goal by Alice Smith.
The second quarter was marred by injury to Jessica Lee but she rallied
to play the 4th quarter. The team displayed some excellent
skills throughout the 2nd and 3rd quarters and
although they could not find the net, they had complete control of the match.
The final quarter saw Tashya, with wonderful support by Sophie and Scarlett
in the form of excellent passing and positioning, score our 2 goals, leaving
the Awesome Alligators worthy winners of the fixture. It was a complete team
effort with Kamila solid in goal, Emily, Josie and Martha stalwart in defence,
Robin, Tashya and Jess tireless in midfield and Sophie and Emily ferocious in
attack. What a wonderful group of girls who bring true meaning to the word,
‘team’.
The Beautiful Bears – Mrs Blake
The crowd cheered as the whistle blew at the start of play for our much
anticipated match against Marlborough. The match was divided into four 10
minute quarters and the girls in The Beautiful Bears team played brilliantly
throughout.
In the opening game, our skills were put to the test straight away as
Marlborough proved to be a force to be reckoned with. Fizz and Amelie showed
great skills and confidence in passing the ball up to the keenly waiting
strikers Izzy and Sydney who took several great shots at the goal. Marlborough
girls however intercepted the shots and attempted to move the ball down to
score but they had not anticipated the wonderful team work from our awesome
defenders Alissa and Isobel and our great goal keeper Zahra were determined to
let no goal past them.
The second quarter game, this time with Katie, Sacha and Kiya in the
line-up, was an equally skilful, exciting game, which ended in a 0:0 score,
proving that both teams were very evenly matched. The third quarter was a super
nail biting game demonstrating fantastic team work from the Beautiful Bears
which ended with an amazing goal from Kiya. In the final quarter, the girls
showed no sign of fatigue as they constantly battled for the ball as did the
Marlborough girls.
Huge congratulations to all the team who demonstrated great skills, teamwork
and sportsmanship throughout. You are a real credit to Alice Smith School.
The Cool Cats – Mrs Quarm
The Cool Cats were in fine form playing against Marlborough College,
going from strength to strength throughout the matches. We were 1-0 down which
gave us the confidence to defend harder. Next quarter was 0-0... then it was
time to put all that hard work into action, with Bella scoring 2 goals! Result
2-0.
Then in the last match, the Cool Cats became tigers, striking and
defending strategically with another 2 goals scored! Well done team...a superb
effort by everyone in the team.
Boys A Team – Mr Thorpe
The U9s Boys A team played incredibly well after a slow start,
chasing the ball down, marking well and always coming out on top in 50/50
challenges. Stand out performances form Ben Monaghan, who never gave up, and
Arav Ubrani, whose silky skills bagged him a brace!
Boys B Team – Mr Kerr
During the friendly fixture against Marlborough College, the Alice Smith
B team put on a spectacular performance. The boys put on a great show with some
sublime attacking moves and Ryan Taoutaou Stonewall defending.
The team all came together with passion and heart to enjoy their games down at
Marlborough College. There is a lot of potential shining through this team.
Well done!
Boys C Team – Mr Grimshaw
A great morning's football was witnessed. The team lined up as follows:
GKR Stevie Grimshaw; DEF Finley Shine; DEF Jamie Downie; MID Joseph Roddy; MID Anthony Davies; MID Kurush Mcleod; MID Carl Desai; MID Lars Poot and STR Jordan Gill
The match was divided into four quarters with KLASS winning the first,
1-0, the second finishing 0-0, the third seeing MCM win 1-0. And so to the
final quarter, and with a few switches in defence, we bolstered our attacking
options and saw out the game with a 2-1 win. Recognition must be given to a
superb team-outfit of players who covered every inch of the field. Games were
played, friends were made. No winners or losers, just quality experience for
our up and coming football stars!
