On Friday 10th January, Year 1 kicked off their Space topic with a fabulous Space Day. Children and staff came dressed in some very imaginative space themed costumes, some of which had clearly taken a lot of time and effort to make.
Mr Pearce and Mrs Wellington checked all space explorers for suitable space apparatus before they filed into the rocket and took their seats. With much excitement (and a little apprehension), the rocket blasted off into space! It was quite amazing to see such awe on so many children’s faces as they viewed some of the beautiful planets in our solar system (on the hall's large projector screen). Before coming back down to earth, Year 1 managed to Skype Dr Space through his satellite and ask him their burning space questions.
After all the excitement in the rocket, the children moved around the Year 1 classrooms to explore alien characters and make rockets and planets. Everyone even managed to eat their space biscuits before the visiting aliens spotted them!
