This term, all three sections (Scouts, Cubs and Beavers) have been working towards the environmental conservation activity badge. The activities have been aimed at increasing awareness about issues that are close to all of us; such as the pollution of oceans with discarded plastics, the ENORMOUS mountain of edible food that is wasted on a daily basis, and how much energy and water each of use and waste through careless habits. We learnt that by making very small changes in our daily habits and behavior, we can have a BIG impact through reducing waste, reusing products and recycling.
A highlight of our term was the camp at Marina Island, Pangkor, where we organised a beach clean-up. We collected all this rubbish in less than an hour.
Back at camp, we learnt how to make a simple solar cooker using recycled materials. Fortunately we didn’t have to cook all our food this way - the traditional way is a lot faster and more reliable!
As the term and school year draws to a close, we say farewell to a few of our Cubs, who are either leaving KL or moving on to Scouts.
We do have a few spaces in Cubs and Scouts for the next school year. If your son or daughter is interested, please contact Sue or Alex at firstname.lastname@example.org for more details.
