Over the course of this academic year, we have been working hard to keep you informed about life at the Primary Campus. We do this in a number of ways from informal chats to parent teacher conferences to parent workshops. The latter have included a wide range of topics including, common sense media, KLASS Lions sports teams and visits from Maths and English consultants from the UK. Our aim is to keep you as informed as possible, to share with you our expertise and to foster an ever strengthening bond between home and school, so we can all aim for excellence in learning and teaching at Alice Smith.
This term, each year group will be presenting a workshop on ‘Learning’ and our approach to the curriculum. Each Year Leader will take parents through the planning process including: how we develop our goals, how we plan for a real audience, how we follow the children’s interests, how we ensure that learning is purposeful and how we aim to include visits and/or visiting experts for deeper, more authentic learning experiences. Our Year Leaders aim to take you on a journey through the planning stage from initial plans to the use of our skills ladders. All teachers use these to make connections across subjects with the appropriate level of challenge for all children regardless of their starting points. They were designed with our Secondary colleagues to ensure that we have a clear picture of expectations within each subject by the time our students move onto the Secondary Curriculum. Finally, Year Leaders will share with you some of the finished examples of planning and learning experiences from their year groups, including an insight into Alice Smith classrooms. Our aim is to ensure that children are engaged, focused and enjoying their learning with high standards at the core of everything we do.
This week, Year 3 and 4 presented information to parents. Their presentations are available on the Gateway. In the following weeks, other Year Leaders will be presenting information on their year groups so be sure to keep the dates in your diary (Year 1 and 2 - Thursday, 8th February and Year 5 - Thursday, 15th March). Further into term, we will be looking at progression in learning from the Early Years classrooms to Year 6 so you will be able to see how learning progresses throughout your child’s time at Alice Smith.
Pret-a-Portrait, our school photographers, will be at the Primary Campus from Tuesday 20th February until Friday 23rd February to take both individual and class photographs. Pret-a-Portrait, who are based in Singapore, are popular in many schools in UK and abroad as they offer a more informal modern style of photograph. This is their third visit to our school. Please note on Saturday 24th February, there will be the option of taking family photographs. Further details will be sent home next week.
