Term 2 is a busy time for the kitchens, as we will be celebrating our truly international and multicultural student population with not one but five national days!
The first of these is Australia Day which falls on Friday 26th January. Australia Day marks the anniversary of the first fleet of 11 British ships arriving at Port Jackson, New South Wales and the raising of the Flag of Great Britain at Sydney Cove by the Governor Arthur Phillip.
Modern day celebrations include the Australian of the Year award, the announcement of the Australia Day Honours list and addresses by the Governor-General and Prime Minister. Communities celebrate with outdoor concerts, community BBQ’s, sports competitions, festivals and fireworks. We will be celebrating by displaying the Australian Flag and serving some typical Australian ‘tucker.
