The Sixth Form students welcomed guest speakers from the Breast Cancer Welfare Association of Malaysia last week.
The students were split into two halves for the morning session where the female students were brought into the lecture theatre to learn more about the organisation and ways in which we could do self examination.
Breast Cancer Welfare Association (BCWA) is a charitable organisation that has been successfully raising awareness of the cause around Malaysia. They depend mainly on public funding and private donations. They offer support and psychological care to patients and their families, where they would be able to join a weekly group talk session or a private counseling time with cancer survivors.
The main element of the talk was when the Sixth Form girls were taught by one of the nurse’s from BCWA as to how we could do a monthly self-examination, and also provided us with useful leaflets to learn more about ways in how to do this self-check correctly.
In relation to Breast Cancer Awareness week within school, the Interact Club has raised over RM4000 and the cheque was presented to Professor Dr Zaharah Aiyub, President of BCWA, on the morning of the talk. We would like to thank everyone who has helped us in the fundraising over the course of the week and also for raising awareness within the school community.
