On Monday of this week we welcomed our Year 11 students and their parents to school for Careers Day. This marked their first concrete step in reflecting on and considering their future options for A Levels, university and beyond, and the programme continues with events and support throughout the term.
I would like to thank Ms Cooper and her Key Stage 4 team for organising this opportunity, and all our guest speakers who took time from their busy schedules to speak to our students, sharing their career experiences. Year 11 students are now having their individual Futurewise interviews, where they have an opportunity to speak with experienced and professional careers advisors to help them think about their futures. As a school community, we are proud and privileged to play our part in guiding our students towards exciting and vibrant futures.
Last week Ms Shanahan and Ms Walton from the English and Media Faculty introduced themselves. This week we continue in the same faculty with:
Mr Ben Lewis, Teacher of English and Assistant Head of Department (Key Stage 3)
I joined KLASS from a school in London, where I worked in the English department for a number of years. The move here has been incredibly smooth and I am delighted to get to know so many young bookworms! It has been lovely to meet so many of you at open evenings so far, particularly given the number of recommendations I have received to travel around this beautiful country. Please keep them coming! I am looking forward to working with the many budding young writers we have at this school to develop their skills and their love of English!
Mr Michael McKinlay, Head of Media
I have always loved creativity, culture, technology, ideas, as well as organising and making things. So I am really excited to be here at Alice Smith, particularly as I have found so many of my students to be genuinely interested and motivated in the same things as me. I am also really impressed by the facilities that are available here for creative production, not just in Media, but also in music, drama, art and photography. I think there is a very positive, supportive and intelligent community of students, staff and parents at Alice Smith and it certainly seems to be a very good place to make some very good things happen. I am enjoying my work and looking forward to the challenges that this new opportunity will bring and I hope that I can make a positive contribution to this community.
More introductions next week. Have a lovely weekend.
