Where have the first four weeks gone? The start of term only seems like yesterday and we are already halfway through the first term. Hopefully by now, the children are feeling settled and getting used to their routines, their new teachers and new children in their class.
It’s been really good to hear the positive feedback from parents about the start of term and the clarity of information you have received. Please continue to talk to us, so we can provide the best education for all our students. One of the ways we communicate with you is via the PTA and Class Reps. They do a fantastic job supporting the school and Mrs Shine has written about their key role in this week’s article. We will also be introducing some more new members of staff to you.
Class Representatives (Class Reps.)
It was wonderful for all of the JB Class Representatives to meet and share ideas about their role and the year ahead. Class Representatives at The Alice Smith School fall under the Parent Teacher Association (PTA). One of the strengths of The Alice Smith School is the parent body, which contributes so much to enhance both the children's experiences and the life of the school community.
Class Representatives are an important point of contact between the school, PTA and the parents at class level, and they do a great job helping to disseminate information on behalf of either the school or PTA. The Class Representatives also play an active role in helping parents get to know each other through organising informal class social events, and also supporting the teachers with rotas and special occasions. The Class Representative role is done on a voluntary basis and is successful through goodwill from both parents and the Class Representative.
Some of the JB PTA group
The PTA are always looking for volunteers, if you want to find out more, please contact Alex Williams via this email address
As promised, we will be introducing our new members of staff over the next few weeks.
Jessica Martin - Year 1 teacher
I moved to KL in the summer holidays from Penang and I am very pleased to find that the food here is just as amazing and the people are just as friendly. I am still getting used to the traffic, tolls and using Waze to find my way around town. My first few weeks at Alice Smith have felt very welcoming. The admin team were extremely proactive in helping my family find accommodation and the teaching staff have been supporting me to learn the new routines of the school. I enjoyed the Year One Curriculum evening where I got to meet the parents in my class and I even found a class rep that evening! I am looking forward to getting to know the Alice Smith community better and having a wonderful year with my class.
Catherine Archer - Computing Specialist
Hello, my name is Catherine Archer. This year I will be teaching Computing at Alice Smith. I have really enjoyed the first weeks at school, getting to know all your wonderful children in Years 3 to 6. I hope that through hands-on and engaging lessons we can inspire the next generation of computing experts. The move to KL has been an exciting experience for my family; our children have thrived at the pool-side and there is always something interesting and new to try. Everyone here has been kind and welcoming making the transition to KL a pleasant one.
