It has been an excellent start to the school year. Thank you to all the teaching and non-teaching staff for their excellent preparation to ensure such a smooth start on both campuses.
Whether you are returning or joining us as a new family, we hope that you have an enjoyable and fulfilling time as part of our school community. Our 2016 - 2017 academic year promises to be very special as we continue to celebrate our 70th Anniversary with exciting events during the first term. You can catch up on happenings at school through our e-newsletter every Friday and you can also follow us on Facebook and Twitter to view the latest news articles, photos, videos and more.
This week we shared our Communications Guide 2016 - 2017, a step-by-step guide to the various communication methods in use by the school. A new development, KLASS Gateway, is a central portal for accessing all Alice Smith services which we anticipate will eventually replace the Parent Portal. Please visit KLASSGateway.edu.my in your browser or click here. Community navigation on Gateway provides links that will allow you to access the same services as the Parent Portal. Currently these are linked to the corresponding locations on the Parent Portal. Some services will require you to log in using the corresponding Parent Portal, KLASS o.p.s. or CHQ credentials.
Come and join our PTA at the first ever Welcome Back Picnic Social at the Secondary Campus, Equine Park this Sunday 4th September from 10:00am to 1:00pm. There will be representatives from many KL societies, sports clubs and charities, fun for the kids and food and drinks vendors.
The recent external examinations results for A level and (I)GCSE continue the very high standards for attainment achieved in previous years, with many exceptional individual performances. Year 13 KLASS 2016 graduates have secured excellent university places in the UK and worldwide, including Cambridge, UCL, Imperial, Warwick and Durham in the UK and Trinity Dublin, Brown, Yale, Washington and UBC internationally.
Our Year 11 students attained the highest recorded achievement at Alice Smith, with 71% of all results awarded at grades A* - A, with 43% of all results being A* grades. Congratulations to all of the students and staff on these excellent results.
The Secondary Campus Sports Complex is ready for the start of school and you are cordially invited to attend the Opening of our Secondary Campus Sports Complex by the British High Commissioner to Malaysia, H.E. Vicki Treadell CMG MVO next Wednesday, 7 September 2016 from 11.30am-2.30pm at the Secondary Campus, Equine Park.
These new facilities include world class track and field facilities enclosing a very high quality natural turf football field, an artificial surface for 5-aside field hockey (to international standards) and three futsal, tennis and netball courts. An additional multi-purpose grass playing area can accommodate a range of outdoor sports such as softball, T-ball, Touch Rugby, Football and Frisbee. Our 8-lane synthetic athletic running track has been certified by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), with Alice Smith being the first international school in Malaysia and the third in the world to receive this standard of certification.
The safety and well being of our students is our highest priority at all times. For the start of this year, we are renewing all security passes for staff, parents, guardians and visitors for both campuses in Term 1. Private vehicles using the car parks or entering the grounds at either campus for drop-off and/or pick-up also need to have the vehicle registered with the respective campus offices and renew vehicle stickers for the 2016 - 2017 academic year.
We look forward to another terrific year for our school and I hope to see many of you at events and activities across the two campuses as the term progresses.
