What an incredible week for Alice Smith as we bring our school year to its closure! The PTA Summer Fair last Saturday was a great event and I cannot thank the PTA enough for all that they do for our school community. The friendly atmosphere and range of stalls and activities ensured that the Fair was very enjoyable for everyone.
The visit by His Royal Highness The Duke of York KG to our Primary Campus on Monday was exciting for everyone involved. Accompanied by Paul Rennie, British Deputy High Commissioner to Malaysia, we were delighted to have HRH visit during our 70th anniversary year. HRH spent time at the “Bentley Be Extraordinary” Car Design competition, enjoyed visiting our Reception classrooms and joined a school assembly where he spoke to the children and the staff. In honour of Her Majesty The Queen’s 90th birthday and Alice Smith’s 70th anniversary, HRH was presented with the winning crown and painting from competitions for the Queen’s birthday by the children to take back to Buckingham Palace. HRH also unveiled a plaque naming our new Dining Hall and One Stop Centre as “ The Jubilee Centre”. The plaque will be mounted in the Jubilee Centre over the summer. What a wonderful way for our school to celebrate 70 years of history, with our school being featured strongly in media coverage.
This year’s Year 6 Show, Frozen, was simply outstanding - an amazing example of talent, teamwork, cooperation and hard work. From start to finish over three nights, we were treated to something very special. Congratulations to everyone involved in the show this year. Trips week for the secondary students has seen them spend time in locations locally, regionally and much further afield such as New York and Berlin. You can follow trips week and so much more about what is happening in school on social media through Facebook and Twitter. Amazing opportunities! Incredible experiences!
Today at our Awards Assemblies at JB we recognised the achievements of many students across Years 3 to 6 and presented a photo album to Mrs Fuller, in memory of her time as Principal. Mrs Fuller is leaving us for new challenges this summer. With the support of the great team of teaching and non-teaching staff around her, she is leaving our Primary Campus in outstanding shape, having brought it to an exceptional level.
We will celebrate Founder’s Day (Alice Smith’s birthday) and recognise further achievement on Monday with the Year 13 Valedictory and Awards assemblies at EP. Our Farewell assemblies at both campuses on Tuesday morning will bring another amazing academic year for our school to an end.
On Wednesday, a presentation was given about the next phase for facilities development at the Equine Park Secondary Campus of Alice Smith School. Construction for the next phase is expected to commence in December 2016, with preparations and planning well underway.

This is our last newsletter for this academic year and I would like to wish all of our leaving families and staff a very fond farewell as you move on to new locations and to new professional and personal challenges. Wherever you may be heading next, we hope that you have enjoyed your time as members of our Alice Smith community and we hope that you will keep in touch with the school and the friends you have made in Kuala Lumpur by becoming part of KLASSics, our Alumni Association.
To join KLASSics, please complete the ‘Join Us’ form available on the school website at www.alice-smith.edu.my in the Alumni section. If your children are still young, please register on their behalf and encourage them to keep in contact with us into the future.
Please remember that the last day of term will be shortened as in previous years and we will finish the school day at midday on Tuesday 5th July.
Best wishes for a safe summer.
