The Interact Club at the Secondary Campus is a student-run activity which provides great opportunity for Sixth Form students to get involved in hands-on community projects, international understanding and fundraising. In addition, students are able to exercise and develop their leadership skills.
TIt has been a very busy first term for us so far. We volunteered at the Kechara Soup Kitchen over half term, where we prepared food, cutlery and toiletries to be distributed to the homeless people in the area. To say the least, it was a thoroughly enriching and rewarding experience for all of us who were involved as we were able to be of service to the people in our city who don’t have the means to buy food and other such living necessities.
TWe recently supported the Breast Cancer Welfare Association of Malaysia (BCWA) through fundraising activities in school. At the Netball SEASAC weekend that was held at the Secondary Campus, we sold baked goods and deserts to the parents, teachers and players. The last week of October was particularly busy for everyone in Interact as we were all involved in the selling of BCWA merchandise and baked goods during break times and lunchtimes as well as the organisation of the “students vs teachers” tug-of-war event. A great event, and surprisingly, the teachers won! Additionally, we managed to have two speakers, one a cancer survivor, come into school (from BCWA) to talk to the students about breast cancer. The week was extremely hectic, but the end result was beyond satisfying as we managed to raise a total of over RM4,000 to donate to BCWA.
TTo wrap up Term 1, we will be raising awareness for prostate cancer with our plans for “Movember” and we will be setting up a stall at the Christmas Bazaar. Lastly, some of us will be attending the Interact Leadership Training Seminar later this month as well as the Interact Conference in Port Dickson this December.
