Best wishes to our students participating in current events including the FOBISIA PPAC, SEASAC Softball, Badminton and Gymnastics, JB Swim Galas, DoE expeditions and the Year 11 Art Jam. There were some fantastic achievements by our U13 FOBISIA team in Shanghai last week, with the boys winning their football and swimming competitions and being runners up in basketball. The girls won their basketball competition were third in football. Congratulations and thanks to all students and staff who represented Alice Smith last weekend in a wide range of events locally and regionally.
Last week I mentioned my attendance at the FOBISIA Heads Business Meeting in Seoul. As a federation, FOBISIA has grown significantly in the last five years and there is very strong interest in membership from new schools in the region. While there is considerable diversity in the demographic of member schools, we all face similar challenges in ensuring provision of a high quality international educational experience for our communities. With more schools being established, the level of investment in teacher engagement and development supported through innovative approaches to learning and teaching such as flexible learning spaces, personalised learning and holistic development will differentiate between the quality of schools and their educational provision.
The Council of Governor’s Strategy Day was held at JB on Thursday to review the key aims in our strategic plan for 2015 - 2020. Further developing and enhancing the high quality of learning and teaching in a safe, secure, world class environment is the highest priority for our school and formed the basis for discussions by the Council and school leadership.
Don’t forget to sign up and follow happenings in the school through Facebook and Twitter and to use the Parent Portal as an important link and source of information about school life and school events. There are now almost 600 followers with twitter and it would be great to see this increase even further.
You can also follow our 70th anniversary year celebrations this year. The KLASS PTA Appreciation Day is being held on Wednesday next week, with the PTA providing goodies at both campuses to show their appreciation to staff. On behalf of the staff, I would like to pass on our sincere thanks to our PTA in advance for their generous spirit and voluntary work on behalf of our community. The KLASS PTA Appreciation day is one of our special anniversary events this year.
Mr Connell has arrived in Antartica International Antarctic Expedition 2016. If you would like to follow his experience, he is keeping in touch with the school community about his experience via this blog.
A reminder that Mrs Howling is currently in the UK interviewing prospective teachers for our few remaining secondary teaching vacancies for next academic year. In her absence, Mr Nick Lee is Acting Principal at the EP Campus.
Our last day of term 2 is next Thursday and classes resume for students in term 3 on Tuesday 12th April. Monday 11th April is a staff professional development day. There will be a newsletter edition next Thursday before the Easter term break.
