From 25th - 28th February 2016 The South East Asian Mathematics Competition took place in Kuala Lumpur, jointly hosted by Alice Smith and Garden International School.
The competition was dreamed up by Steve Warry of the Alice Smith School back in 2001, unfortunately Steve Warry died before the first event but his idea has gone from strength to strength and is now attended by over 40 schools.
The event this year was held at both schools with a selection of events including team competitions, a maths trail, carousel activities and individual papers. Everything was organised by the maths departments at the two schools with support from some Sixth Form students. All activities were well received by the visiting schools and the students made a lot of new friends during the event.
Six Year 10 students from Alice Smith School attended the event. Anchal Bhatter, Aqila Arimurti, Philip Searcy, Bryan Chay, Jounghyun Shim and Christian Rasmussen. They did a fantastic job, they represented the school brilliantly and really enjoyed the weekend of maths.
