Competitors were greeted by rain when arriving at GIS for the ISAC U9 and U11 team Modern Biathlon on Sunday morning. Fortunately luck was on our side as the rain subsided and the overcast weather provided cool conditions for the event.
First off was the U9 teams with their 4 x 200m relay run followed by a 4 x 25m swim. The event started well with Hannah Mulloy and Marina Bridges starting the open race for their teams before passing the relay batons over to the next team members. Every race saw twists and jostling for positions all the way to the finish line. The support from the parents, supporters and students added an extra level of excitement to the event and at point was so loud that the music became just a background noise. Once teams finished their run, the marshalled to the pool to complete the swimming leg versus the same sets of schools as they had just run against. KLASS teams were equally split and performed well in the pool and on the track. After little over 40mins, all the U9 races had been completed and everyone gathered for the awards ceremony. KLASS A (Hanna, Latisha, Sean and Andrew) team finished in silver medal place behind AIS A team in the individual team standings and we did amazingly well as a KLASS U9 team to be crowned overall first place in the schools competition! A fantastic team effort from the U9s.
The U11 faced the task of running and swimming double the distance of the U9s in their event but rose to the challenge. The level of competition was high from the KL schools and set a fast pace on the track and for swimming. The KLASS competitors all had to dig deep to keep the pace and worked well in their teams to ensure the best possible times. Overall KLASS A team secured bronze medals in the individual team event and the U11 team finished 2nd overall behind a very strong Garden team.
