When the Key Stage 2 children returned from their summer holidays, they were excited to start the school year with a new MFL option, Mandarin.
For most of them, learning Mandarin was a completely new experience. During the term, they have enjoyed exploring the Chinese world.
The children participated in a range of exciting activities that have allowed them to master the four aspects of language learning: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. We have created a happy learning environment in which the children feel confident to use Mandarin to communicate and to make their own stories and act out in role-plays.
We would also like to encourage all our students to use Mandarin Matrix at home. Every child has their account login information, where they are able to read a selection of e-books, listen to audio stories, record their own voices, play games all of which enable them to consolidate the vocabulary learnt in lessons. We have been very impressed by our children so far and we hope that they will continue to enjoy their Mandarin lessons with us!
"I wanted to learn Mandarin because I wanted to take on a new challenge. Lessons are hard but fun!" ~ Zainab Ali, 5I
"My grandmother taught me some Mandarin before however I never had a chance to learn any writing with her. This year, I'm enjoying learning how to write in Mandarin. Being in the extension group is also fun, you get lots of house points!" ~ Anna Daphne Meier, 5I
"Everyone in my family said that I should learn Mandarin. I wasn't sure, but I'm now picking it up really fast. I like the way the lessons are taught, they're fun and enjoyable, and the homework is not too hard." ~ Liam Pirie, 5T
