SHE was the rose among the thorns and Zoe Anne
Landry surely made heads turn at the MCA/MILO/MSSM National Under-12
cricket championship in Kuantan recently.
Representing the South Zone, Zoe Anne, 12 was
the only girl to play in the tournament, and to her credit was
not overawed by the occation.
And with South Zone capturing the title, it was indeed a great
debut for the Zoe Anne.
"Also, my team-mates have been very supportive
and this has helped me a great deal.
"Although I also lay netball and tennis,
cricket is my love," she confessed.
Coach P. Palanivellu said Zoe Anne, essentially a bowler, earned
her place in the team on merit.
A student of the Alice Smith International School
in Kuala Lumpur, Zoe Anne started playing cricket as an eight-year
old in Sydney and later in Melbourne.
Now, she plays for the Royal Selangor Club under-14 side - a mixed
team.
"We train on Wednesdays and Fridays and
play friendly matches on weekeds."
One day, Zoe Anne hops to play cricket at a higher level, hopefully,
for Australia.
