Secondary School Activities and Clubs Programme for Term 1, 2007-2008
 |

A
programme of extracurricular activities is organised throughout
the week at both campuses. The activities on offer reflect the
diverse interests of pupils and staff and includes 'stand alone'
classes such as Tae Kwon Do and hip-hop dance, whilst other
groups prepare for the many team sport competitions which are
held regularly both locally and internationally. Both campuses
enjoy participating in the Fobissea Games (Federation of British
International Schools in South and East Asia); the school has
an enviable record of success in the games, particularly in
basketball, netball, football and athletics, and attract considerable
support from the Alice Smith community. Swimming is strong in
both schools with the full Olympic size pool at Equine Park
being used for a wide range of aquatic activities. The superb
facilities at Equine Park, including the cricket pitch, are
also used frequently in the evenings and weekends by parent
groups and friends of the school.
There
are Interact and Youthact groups in school who support a number
of charitable causes in and around KL including children's
homes, paediatric wards in local hospitals and other support
centres for those who are less fortunate than ourselves. The
school also works with the Jeli English Language Tuition Centre
for children in rural Kelantan, improving their exposure to
native spoken English and varied learning experiences.

From
Year 3, students are assigned a House for the purpose of organized
sporting competition, and commendations
for academic achievement and social conduct. The House Athletics
Meeting for older children held at a local stadium
is always a highlight of the House year. |

School
visits to places within Malaysia and to other countries in the
region play an important part of the curriculum at all levels
in the school. Each year all students in the secondary and upper
primary years spend a week out of the classroom at various locations
within Malaysia, facing the challenges and new experiences that
each trip provides. These range from the rain forests of Taman
Negara, to the heights of Mount Kinabalu, the depths of the
South China Sea and the wilds of Sabah and other Malaysian islands.
Children in the younger years also have the opportunity to experience
shorter trips to enable them to build up the confidence needed
to embark on the later expeditions.
The school
is represented each year in the Model United Nations debates
locally in Kuala Lumpur and more widely in Singapore and the
Netherlands, together with Music and Arts visits to festivals
throughout Asia, ski trips to Austria, cultural visits to
Europe and more. Our children certainly make the most of the
myriad opportunities afforded to them in the vibrant and cosmopolitan
region in which we live.
