The
Alice Smith School welcomed a Royal visit when the Duke and Duchess
of Gloucester, members of the British Royal family, visited the
Primary School at Jalan Bellamy.
Bill Addington, one of the School Governors, Steve Caulfield the
Primary Principal and Christine Boden the Vice Principal welcomed
the Royal Party who were accompanied by Mr. Bruce Cleghorn, the
British High Commissioner to Malaysia. The party toured the school,
which is one of the largest British Curriculum Schools in Asia
with over 700 pupils between ages 3 to 11 years old.
The
Principal, Steve Caulfield explained that the school has recently
seen the completion of a new building to accommodate Years 5 and
6. Previously to this, these year groups had attended the secondary
campus at Equine Park.
"With
the development", explained Mr. Caulfield, "we have been able
to re-unite the Primary School and provide city based provision
for the local and expatriate community". The Primary School operates
as a true community school and benefits enormously from a strong
and dedicated team of teachers and class assistants together with
wonderful parental support and participation. A Royal visit could
not have come at a better time, in the sense that we are at the
beginning of a new academic year. "This will get us all off to
a great start", commented Mr. Caulfield.
