Clubs
and Activities at the Primary School
We offer more than 50 clubs and after school activities each term
for children from Year One to Year Six (Year One activities begin
in Term 3). These run for an hour after school and are provided
by school staff and outside agencies, the latter charging termly
fees. We are also fortunate in having parent who organise uniform
clubs such as Cubs and Brownies and also offer a range of creative
activities.
Clubs and activities offer opportunities for children to take on
new challenges, interact with pupils other than their classmates
and develop their confidence and self esteem through a range of
achievements. Independence, perseverance and commitment are all
encouraged through our after school programme and the skills of
making choices are introduced and developed.
Swimming and Sport prove to be very popular across the whole age
range and the recent introduction of fencing has provided an exciting
development for the older pupils. Language classes, musical activities,
gymnastics, drama and dance are all well subscribed and other options
including art, ICT, speech and drama, maths, karate, nature study,
cooking, sign language, tennis and taekwondo are all well attended.
Selections for activities are made each term and as far as possible,
we try to ensure that every child has at least one of their first
choices.
We are always ready to listen to comments and respond to suggestions
for extra activities. A Japanese class has recently been organised
and ballet lessons are now available.
Year Six Challenge
Year Six pupils are able to take part in the
Year Six Challenge award which is based on the Duke of Edinburgh
scheme for older students. This consists of three strands - skills,
service and adventure, which provide opportunities to set and achieve
personal goals.
