Arrival and Dismissal

All students should aim to arrive at school by 7.45am.

Buses
Students who travel by bus will be dropped off at the bus drop-off point. Staff are on duty at the arrival point to ensure the students arrive in a safe and orderly manner. The bus registers are passed on by the bus prefects to the Transport Co-ordinator.

For dismissal, the bus prefects collect the bus registers from the Transport Office and the students attendance in the bus will be taken. This feedback is given to the staff on duty. If there are any missing students this will be highlighted and will be checked with the Transport Co-ordinator. Once the attendance is confirmed, students are told to fasten seat belts.

Cars
For morning arrival :

All cars must arrive and leave from the second gate. The children will alight in front of the Assembly Hall. Staff are on duty to ensure that the vehicles are at a standstill when the students disembark and to ensure that there is no overtaking or double dropping off.

For Dismissal :
Cars driven by parents have their evening pick up point at gate one - and the car park beside the tennis court. Cars with drivers will use the second gate, staff on duty will prevent students from wandering down the line of cars to 'queue jump'. They have to ensure that the students are picked up from one point only.

Morning Break and Lunchtime Arrangements

Our Food Hall serves a variety of hot meals (both Asian and Western) and snacks. Students can however, bring a packed lunch and eat it at school.

Duty staff will be monitoring the Food Hall. Students are expected to queue in Key Stages, in an orderly manner. Students must ensure the return of all crockery to the trolleys where refuse should be disposed off appropriately and the plates stacked neatly. NO plates or cutlery should be removed from the foodhall. All food and drink brought in to the school should be consumed in the foodhall and NOT on the field, hard court or around the school.

Food Provision at Equine Park

The increase in the number of children who are overweight and obese and the long term effects associated with these conditions on an individual's health, is now a global concern. Governments in most developed countries have or are currently implementing strategies and programmes in schools that promote an increased awareness of the benefits of a healthy balanced diet and regular physical activity.

In keeping with the UK Government's initiative to provide healthier school meals from September 2006 t he Alice Smith School has implemented a Whole School Food Policy.

The health benefits of a nutritious diet should not be underestimated. Consuming nutritious food and adopting a healthy life style help students to grow and develop to their optimum potential, leading to improved educational outcomes.

A healthy diet plays a preventative role in relation to nutrition related conditions and diseases such as excess weight, obesity and dental disease and, in later life, osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and a range of cancers.

It is for this reason that parents, teachers and students work together to support a whole-school approach to building a culture in which students actively choose nutritious food and a healthy lifestyle.

The eating habits of students are greatly influenced by the food available in school. Food eaten at school contributes substantially to the students' daily nutrient intake and also has a considerable influence in the development of their eating habits, growth patterns and energy levels.

It is with this information that we have introduced the Alice Smith Meal Plan which ensures our students will be provided with balanced, nutritious meals during school hours.

Students will be offered a Breakfast Set at first break for RM5 and a more substantial meal at lunchtime which will cost RM10. Western, Asian and Vegetarian selections will be available for both the breakfast and lunch menus.

The Breakfast Set will include fresh fruit, fruit juice, a main dish and a hot beverage selection.

The Lunch Set will include the choice of soup or salad, a main dish (choice of Western or Asian food), a dairy product and a fruit or pastry (according to the menu).

For Students on the go, the tuckshop will serve:

  • Freshly made Sandwiches
  • Freshly made Salads (Chicken Salad, Tuna Salad, Garden Salad)
  • Freshly Baked Pizza, Quiche Lorraine, Croque Monsieur.
  • Cup Noodles
  • Cereal Bars
  • Fruit Juices and Mineral Water

In order to increase efficiency and reduce student queuing time Meal Coupons have now been introduced replacing the smart card. Smart card credit will be gladly exchanged for meal coupons.

The Meal Coupons can be purchased at the foodhall from 8am until 4pm

  • RM5 Coupons for Breakfast Set
  • RM10 Coupons for Lunch Set.

The Alice Smith Food Policy

The Alice Smith School will always endeavour to:

  • ensure the selection of food items and meals to be served at school is nutritionally balanced to assist in meeting the daily dietary needs of our children
  • ensure the selection of food items and meals to be served at school is low in sodium, saturated fats, refined carbohydrates and food additives, and be made using fresh food products whenever possible
  • promote healthy eating in all school activities and the drinking of water as the first and best choice
  • have curriculum strategies supportive of healthy eating
  • provide a supportive environment for healthy eating with consistent messages about nutrition
  • develop partnerships with parents, food service providers and other agencies.
